Mr. Rockefeller has over 25 years of experience in Civil, Mechanical, and Structural Engineering. His main areas of expertise are piping system design, plant system design, equipment specification, maintenance engineering, and energy management. He also has considerable experience in both water and air environmental engineering. Mr. Rockefeller has held the position of project engineer, being responsible for project technical direction, schedule, budget, and execution of many design and planning projects. His wide variety of experience has given him a unique blend of theoretical and practical engineering knowledge. He is also a skilled writer of technical and business documents. He is one of the most experienced users of AUTOPIPE piping stress analysis program, having used it since its inception over 12 years ago and has been responsible for many of the improvements to the software throughout its development.
EXPERIENCE
- Piping, mechanical, and project engineering on over 40 projects related to improvements and maintenance on fossil burning power plants. Served as an expert on piping, pipe stress analysis, pipe hangers, critical pipe inspection, and piping flow-accelerated corrosion inspections.
- Replaced 55 aging critical pipe supports on main steam, hot reheat, and cold reheat piping systems and 8 hot reheat seam welded elbows. Also added new drain lines at undrained low points. Tasks included complete pipe stress analysis, pipe support design, field inspection, weld etching, elevation level surveying of the piping, field construction engineering, and startup.
- Organized a task force to address critical pipe issues. Held meetings to discuss problems and approaches to solutions and to update members on current technology and experience. Attended Material Property Council (MPC) meetings.
- Project management and technology engineering on several critical pipe seam inspection projects. Tasks included locating and identify seam welds by paper search and field acid etch testing, selection of inspection points using the MPC’s OmegaPipe program, specification writing, contract writing, and bid document preparation for inspection and contractors, field coordination of contractors, and interpretation of results and final recommendations.
- Project management and technical engineering including pipe design, routing, stress analysis, pipe support design, and control valve selection for a new sootblower system which added 14 new steam sootblowers to the existing system. The new system included over 1000 feet of piping and was installed while the plant was online, requiring only a 2-day mini outage for connection to the existing system.
- Complete technical review of all sootblower problems and evaluation of various improvement solutions. Topics covered included: recurring maintenance problems, sootblower erosion of boiler tubes, steam system routing and drainage, sootblower nozzle options, automated sootblower controls, and addition of new sootblowers in problem areas.
- Project management and technical engineering for feedwater heater replacements. Tasks included: preparation of specifications and bid documents; purchase of a new feedwater heater; preparation, specification and design of new piping and pipe changes; and field supervision of installation.
- Piping analysis and design of buried pipe systems for modifications to a DOE radioactive storage facility.
- Water and wastewater design engineering and operations and maintenance engineering. Prepared technical reports, specifications, calculations, wrote operating manuals, and prepared spreadsheets and drawings. Also responsible for writing proposals for new projects and business letters to clients and compliance agencies.
- Prepared a feasibility study and preliminary design and layout for the water and wastewater treatment systems for a new development hotel and conference center.
- Designed and prepared plans and specifications for a reverse osmosis water treatment system and distribution piping for a new development 100 acre horse ranch.
- Designed and prepared plans and specifications for an automatic leachfield dosing system for the purpose of increasing the percolation capacity of the wastewater plant disposal leachfield.
- Prepared quality assurance procedure and policy manuals for an engineering software company whose largest software product is the AUTOPIPE piping analysis program.
- Seismic qualification of mechanical and electrical equipment. Performed a design review of the overall project to improve the seismic qualification process.
- Performed mechanical system functional reviews to classify safety-related systems and to define the scope of work for a large seismic review program.
